ATLANTA, Oct. 23, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta (FHLBank Atlanta) today announced $20 million in state housing bond investments through the third quarter of 2026 to help support homeownership for low- and moderate-income families, reinforcing the Bank's commitment to addressing housing affordability challenges across the Southeast.

Proceeds from the bonds will be used, in whole or in part, to finance newly originated mortgage loans for eligible homebuyers purchasing single-family homes in its district.

"Housing affordability remains one of the most pressing challenges facing families in our communities," said Reggie O'Shields, president and chief executive officer of FHLBank Atlanta. "By investing in state housing bonds that support mortgage financing, we remain committed to helping more working families achieve homeownership and build long-term financial stability."

The recent state housing bond investments are a part of the Bank’s broader strategy to increase affordable housing supply and complement its established community investment programs, including its Affordable Housing Program (AHP) and voluntary housing initiatives.

In addition to the $20 million invested in state housing bonds, FHLBank Atlanta committed $120 million in 2026 to initiatives designed to support community development in partnership with members, sponsors, and developers. The Bank also currently has $3.2 billion in outstanding Community Investment Cash Advances (CICA) with participating members, a discounted funding program that enables member financial institutions to support affordable housing and community development activities.

"Meeting today's housing needs requires a multifaceted approach," O'Shields said. "Through innovative financing solutions, strong member partnerships, and targeted investments, FHLBank Atlanta remains focused on creating more pathways to homeownership and strengthening the communities we are privileged to serve."
